Here is a sampling of the classes that we will be offering. We will be having more and more classes in the upcoming months ahead. Please give us a call if you would like a special class for your individual group.
I. {Basic Ceramics} - Low Fire Basics. What we teach here can be applied to any type of clay works. There is a suggested tool selection that is required and listed at the end of this description of this class. This is a "5" or "6" day class
a. Introduction to different types of clays; Pouring into molds; slip making; reclaiming slip; Mending different types of clays
b. Clay Colorants; Underglazes Low-fire to High-fire; Raised colored designs; Sgraffito designs; Mishima; Burnished colorants; Oxide type clay Stains; colored clays; Reds-Yellows-Oranges(Cadmiums); Screening a design.
c. Glazing Basics; Clear and colored glazes; Dipping and Brushing glazes; Leaded & Lead-Free; Glaze colorants; Special glazes; Snow- froth; Crackle; Crystals;
d. Overglazes; China Paints; Lusters; Metallic Lusters; Decals; Rubber Stamp application.
e. Non-Firing Colorant Techniques: Useage of non-firing materials; Softee technique, Chalking; oil & water base Staining; snows, glitters and pearls, Color theory,
f. Firing Techniques; Those interested in getting a kiln to start up a business or to fine tune their knowledge of firing. Basic introduction to firing from Low(^018 to ^04 to ^5 to ^9-10) Raku, Pit, Sawdust, Dung Firing are introduced.
