Servicing Hawaii’s need to create in Clay
Our store started with the idea of helping people who know little about the process of clay, create something great! Since our very humble beginnings in a very small 600 sf space in Kaimuki; 1988, Mona and Dean Young...(Mother and Son)... opened up a store that made its main goal ... "To help others bring their creative dream to fruition!" The Ceramic Hobbyist is a family owned business. We want you to feel completely relaxed whenever a question about anything comes up!! You may want to ask us for advice on a project, a creative endeavors that you may have had. What-ever the question, we'll do our utmost to answer any question that you may have! Dean and Letty at the store most of the time and they are there to solve any of your ceramic questions. Our store is presently at our third location and our main goal of helping people to reach for that creative edge hasn’t changed a bit. There is a creative juice that is within each and every one of us and we’re doing our best to help people release it! Each person has a different gift that God has blessed them with We would be honored to be a part of your finding your individual gift. If you haven't yet found that gift that you've been blessed with, let us help you give yourself a chance to release this spirit of creativity.
Every year our small store expands its product line such that our customers have a better selection of all types of supplies and tools available to them. Whether the tools are for sculpting or clay-work, we’ve always said that our hands are the best tools available anywhere., although, it sometimes helps to have other tools available to help give you a little hand in the creative process. Suggestions about our variety of different tools and materials that we 'have', 'should have' and 'shouldn’t have' are gladly accepted!
There is a stigma attached with "Being a Ceramist" , "Being a Potter", "Being a Crafter", "Being an Artist" and that of "Being a Sculptor". My project with this store is to meld the different realms into one where anyone could be taught that beautiful works of art can be created by all and any one of us!
Each of our customers know that a friendly and knowledgeable person here at the Ceramic Hobbyist will be able to help them. Whatever the project is, customers feel comfortable enough to call us or even come on down in person to “Get Help”. If you are completing or are contemplating about any project, be it sculpting, casting, carving, throwing, cooking (Beggars Chicken is Chicken cooked in a clay wrapping!), automobile parts reproduction...etc...feel completely free to ask any question at all. Consider us as part of your 'Ohana' where you can ask ' Any kine questions...L'dat! ' Hope to see you soon!
